TWENTY-NINE PEOPLE died and 29 others were injured after a UP state transport bus travelling from Lucknow fell into a canal on the Yamuna Expressway, about 230 km from New Delhi, early Monday morning.

 Many of those killed are believed to have drowned in the canal, officials said.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a probe into a bus accident on the Yamuna Expressway near Agra that killed at least 29 people and injured more than 15, officials said on Monday.

Transport commissioner, divisional commissioner and Agra’s inspector general of police have been asked to investigate the accident in 24 hours and give a report on its cause, according to Mrityunjay Kumar, advisor to chief minister Yogi Adityanath.



They have also been instructed to give long term recommendations to avoid such accidents, headded.

The chief minister has also asked his deputy Dinesh Sharma and the minister of state for transport Swatantra Dev Singh to immediately visit the accident site and meet the injured in the hospitals.
Mr Adityanath has ordered a probe by a committee comprising the transport commissioner, the divisional commissioner and the inspector general (Agra range) to find out the exact cause of the accident. They will have to give a report within 24 hours. He also sought long-term recommendations to avoid such accidents.



"Saddened by the news of Yamuna Expressway bus accident. Have spoken to Yogi Adityanath. He has directed Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma and Minister of State for Transport Swatantra Dev Singh to reach the site of accident.

 UP BJP General Secretary Pankaj Singh has also left for the spot. Express my condolences to the families of those who died and wish for speedy recovery of injured," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted.

Road safety experts have long warned the dangers of speeding on the wide expressway, especially in early morning hours and night.

Accidents have also been rising on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. Last week, the Uttar Pradesh government said drivers will have to pay a fine for speeding if they covered the 302 km-stretch from the Lucknow toll plaza to Agra in less than three hours.



Rahul Gandhi condoles death of 29 passengers in UP bus accident
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday condoled the death of 29 passengers in a bus accident in Uttar Pradesh.

Twenty-nine people were killed and 18 injured after a Lucknow-Delhi state-run bus skidded off the Yamuna Expressway and fell into a large drain in UP in the early hours of Monday.


Gandhi said he is pained by the news of the accident on Yamuna Expressway.
