Calming the mind: PM Modi tweets two videos ahead of International Yoga Day

Jharkhand capital Ranchi will be the venue for the main event for International Yoga Day on June 21 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend it.



Ahead of the fourth Yoga Day celebrations on 21 June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted two more videos on Thursday that demonstrate ‘dhyana’ (meditation) and ‘nadishodhan pranayama’.

In an interesting step to promote Yoga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted an animated video of himself performing asanas on social media on Tuesday.

Modi has previously also extensively promoted the traditional Indian physical, mental and spiritual exercise form since he became the PM.



New Delhi: Ahead of the fourth Yoga Day celebrations on 21 June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said it makes people better individuals in thought, action, knowledge and devotion. 

He also said that yoga is not just a set of exercises that keep the body fit, it is a "passport" to health assurance and a key to fitness and wellness.

Ahead of the International Yoga Day 2017, PM Narendra Modi has tweeted a video on Nadi Shodhan Pranayama and its importance. 

Nadi = energy channel; 
Shodhan = cleaning; 
Pranayama = a breathing technique. 
Nadis are the energy channels in our body that could get obstructed due to many reasons. 

The Nadi Shodhan pranayama is a breathing technique that helps clear these blocked energy channels, thus calming the mind. This technique is also known as Anulom Vilom pranayama. 

Therea are different causes of the blockage of the Nadis like due to stress, due to the toxicity in the body and physical and mental trauma. 

it can also be obstructed due to a unhealthy lifestyle.

In a video message posted on his Twitter handle, the prime minister said yoga is one of the most precious gifts given by the ancient Indian sages to humankind. 

"Yoga is not only what you practise in the morning. Doing your day-to-day activities with diligence and complete awareness is a form of yoga as well," he said. Free from illness, a path to wellness — that is the path of yoga, he said.

He said the set of exercises bring about oneness among the mind, body and intellect. "We begin to understand ourselves much better, which also makes us understand others better.

" Referring to the "problems of modern lifestyle", he said that people suffer from stress-related ailments and also lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. "Stress and depression have become silent killers," he said.
